# Errors

Failed Phone Location Verification v2 requests return
`status: "failed"` and a message describing the failure.

| HTTP status | Meaning | Common causes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `400` | Request timeout or upstream access failure | The location request could not be completed in time. |
| `401` | Authentication failed | Missing or invalid credentials, timestamp, or signature. |
| `403` | Forbidden | The merchant or channel is not enabled for Phone Location Verification. |
| `422` | Validation failed | Missing or invalid request fields, incompatible location fields, or unsupported operator. |
| `500` | Processing failed | The operator request could not be processed. |
| `503` | Maintenance | The service is temporarily unavailable. |

Validation messages can identify an invalid `transaction_id`, `msisdn`,
`location_type`, `check_type`, location value, `channel`, or operator. Correct
the request before retrying a `422` response.
